Access requirements
In order to access an official doctoral degree students must hold a Spanish official Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, and University Master's degree, or equivalent, provided they have passed at least 300 ECTS credits counting both of them.
Specific criteria of the programme
Interested students must fill in and send, within the deadline provided, their admission application, including their CV, academic record, and certificates proving any additional training, language skills level and work experience when applicable.
The Academic Commission of the Doctoral programme will examine the applications and decide on admissions taking the following aspects into account:
A) Academic record of the candidate (60%)
The average grade of academic record will be valued taking into account both the marks of the Bachelor’s degree and those of the Master’s, university or doctoral degree.
B) CV of the candidate (30%)
The following aspects of the candidate's CV will be valued:
- Publications related to the doctoral programme topic (10%): 2.5% per publication in the first quartile of SCI, 1.5% per publication in the rest of SCI, 1% per book chapter and 0.5% publication in journals not included in SCI.
- Communications in conferences related to the doctoral programme topic (5%): 1 % per communication in an international conference and 0.5% per communication in a national conference.
- Training courses related to the doctoral programme lines (10%). Every time the candidate has attended a course related to the topic of the doctoral programme will be valued with 2.5% for every 6 ECTS (equivalent length), or the corresponding proportional part according to the length of the course.
- Other merits submitted by the candidate (5%). Previous experience in research, awards received, advanced analysis techniques management, grants obtained in competitive calls, or any other proven merit submitted by the candidate and deemed relevant by the Academic Commission for the development of the doctoral degree will be taken into account.
C) Proven English skills (10%)
English skills level will be valued according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (MCER):
- A2 level 4%
- B1 level 6%
- B2 level 8%
- C1 level 10%
In the event that demand exceeds the available places in the Doctoral programme in Agri-food, the evaluations will be ranked, and the highest scores will be selected. The minimum admission score for the programme is 35/100.
For students with specific educational needs derived from disability, systems and procedures will be established that include appropriate support and advisory services, which will assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries, or alternative studies.
Admission will not, under any circumstances, imply any modification of the academic and, if applicable, professional effects corresponding to the previous degree held by the applicant, nor its recognition for purposes other than pursuing Doctoral studies.
The recommended admission profile is: candidates with training in agrifood acquired through a degree in an area such as Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Food Technology, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary, Chemical Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, Earth Sciences, Geography, Oenology, etc, and subsequent specialisation in some of the following master’s degrees taught at UPNA, or similar taught at other institutions:
- Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering
- Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems and Teledetection
- Master’s Degree in Agrifood Industry Technology and Sustainability
- University Master’s degree in Environmental Agro-biology
- Double University Master’s degree in Environmental Agro-biology and Natural Sciences
- University Master's degree in Soils and Water Management (biennial)
- Master’s degree in Innovative Oenology
Those with a university degree, engineering or doctoral degree in areas related to those aforementioned may also access.
