Access requirements
In order to access an official doctoral degree students must hold a Spanish official Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, and University Master's degree, or equivalent, provided they have passed at least 300 ECTS credits counting both of them.
Specific criteria of the programme
Generally speaking, when the number of admission applications meeting the general requirements is higher than the number of places offered, the Academic Commission will take into account the following general criteria:
- Academic record (up to 50 points): the grade will be weighed according to the level of similarity of the degree which grants access to the doctoral programme.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (up to a maximum of 30 points).
- Master’s degree (up to a maximum of 20 points).
- Cover letter (up to 25 points): doctoral student’s coherence and knowledge will be valued, according to their training level in the specific field they are interested in.
- Formal recognitions to their academic record (up to 5 points).
- Additional experience in introduction to research activities or professional experience related to the programme (up to 10 points).
- Research grants (up to 5 points).
- Proven language skills of scientific interest (up to 5 points).
Granted points refer to a 100-point scale, and in order to be admitted at least 60 points are required.
An interview may be carried out to clear those aspects of the submitted documents as deemed necessary.
The recommended admission profile is an official bachelor’s and master's degree related to agrifood, life and nature technologies and sciences.
Recommended master’s degrees are those in the following areas:
- Agrifood
- Food Science and Technology
- Plant Production
- Animal Production
- Agricultural Engineer
- Environmental Sciences
- Experimental Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering)
- Health Sciences (Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics)
Basic knowledge and skills to develop the planned activities are required. It is considered that students who have completed degrees in the mentioned fields possess sufficient and necessary basic knowledge in disciplines related to biology, chemistry, and technologies in the agrifood or biotechnological fields to pursue the doctoral degree.
Applicants must have English language skills equivalent to level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for both reading and understanding the bibliography, and taking part in some of the training activities, as well as writing scientific documents appropriate to their training.
