Specific criteria of the programme

The Academic Commission of the doctoral programme will examine the applications and decide on admissions taking the following aspects into account:

  • Academic record (up to 65%): The average grade of academic record will be valued taking into account the marks of both the Bachelor’s and the Master’s degree. The weight of the academic record corresponding to the master's degree or old university degree will be 60%, and that of the bachelor's degree will be 40%.
  • Research CV of the candidate (up to 20%): The following aspects of the candidate's CV will be valued:
    • Publications: related to the doctoral programme topic. (50%)
    • Communications in conferences related to the doctoral programme topic. (10%)
    • Training courses related to the doctoral lines. (20%)
    • Previous mobility actions. (10%)
    • Other merits submitted by the candidate: (10%) Previous experience in research, B1 or higher level in English, French or a third language, awards received, advanced analysis techniques management, grants obtained in competitive calls, or any other proven merit submitted by the candidate and deemed relevant by the Academic Commission for the development of the doctoral degree will be taken into account.
      .
  • Other conditions (up to 15%): other university degrees and professional experience which may have allowed the candidate to obtain useful skills for the doctoral programme.

Candidates from master's degrees (or the old bachelor's degrees) in the fields of Arts and Humanities, and Social Sciences, whose prior bachelor's degree (except for those with old university degrees (licenciados) is also directly related to the content and orientation of this Doctoral degree (optimal access). This includes degrees in History, Humanities, Heritage, Territory Planning, Language, and Literature.

It is understood that, based on their title and comparable content (taught at our universities or other Spanish or foreign institutions), they provide sufficient entry-level training.

Additional profiles which may be considered similar are defined - they will require training complements.

Candidates from other master's degrees (and the old bachelor's degrees) in the fields of Arts and Humanities, and Social Sciences, but from different specialities (e.g., Sociology, Anthropology) whose focus may be related to this doctoral programme but who lack the complete prior training required by the programme.

The Academic Committee will evaluate these applications and, in consultation with the thesis supervisor(s) and tutor, will establish specific training supplements that will enable the candidate to successfully undertake the programme and the corresponding doctoral thesis.

The student admitted to the doctoral programme must complete between 6 and 12 credits from the subjects offered by one or more of the official master's programmes at the Campus Iberus universities. The selected subjects must be specifically related to the thesis topic and preferably methodological, although they may also be foundational. The aim of this selection is to address any potential gaps in the doctoral candidate's training. Consideration will be given to the specific areas of work of the research group or line in which the doctoral candidate's work will be developed (Societies and historical processes in border areas, Territory organisation, landscape and cross-border relations, and Material and immaterial heritage in border areas).

Candidates from other master's degrees (and the old bachelor's degrees) corresponding to different fields of knowledge from those previously mentioned (e.g., Architecture, Law, Economics). The Academic Commission will determine whether the applicant's profile is suitable for the programme and the corresponding doctoral thesis. If deemed suitable, and depending on each candidate's specific background, the Commission, in agreement with the thesis supervisor(s) and tutor, will establish the specific training supplements that must be undertaken, in line with the requirements indicated for Admission profile 2.

A student admitted to the doctoral programme under this profile, and depending on their educational shortfall, must complete up to a maximum of 21 credits from the compulsory or elective subjects offered by these master's programmes. The aim of this selection is to address any potential gaps in the doctoral candidate's training; it will be decided with the involvement of the supervisor(s) and tutors and will focus on subjects related to both methodological and foundational aspects. Consideration will be given to the specific areas of work of the research group or line in which the doctoral candidate's work will be developed (Societies and historical processes in border areas, Territory organisation, landscape and cross-border relations, and Material and immaterial heritage in border areas).

Should a candidate require, under the Academic Commission’s point of view, a training supplement of over 21 ECTS, his profile will be deemed not appropriate to undertake this Programme.
