In the development of its 2nd Strategic Plan (2005-2008), UPNA, as an institution fully committed to quality and the continuous improvement of its activities, launched the design of an Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) in 2008 as part of the new curricula, as outlined in Royal Decree 1393/2007.
IQAS, initially designed for Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, has been updated to comply with the new regulatory frameworks that have emerged. Thus, in response to the provisions of Royal Decree 99/2011, IQAS was adapted to include doctoral studies.
The existence of a robust IQAS has allowed for positive outcomes in external evaluations carried out by ANECA in all Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programmes (initial verifications, modifications, interim monitoring, and accreditation renewals). Furthermore, over the years, several International Quality Labels have been obtained, such as the EUROINF Label for Computer Science, the EUR-ACE® Label for Engineering, and the Employability and Entrepreneurship Label, awarded in December 2024.
In 2020, with a mature and fully consolidated IQAS, the University made a decisive commitment to the institutional accreditation of its Centres. Thus, in alignment with its 5th Strategic Plan (2020-23) and within the period it covers, the University achieved institutional accreditation for all of its Bachelor’s and Master’s Centres.
In 2024, with the publication of the ANECA Institutional Accreditation Model for Doctoral Schools, UPNA followed the path taken with the rest of its centres and submitted its Doctoral School, EDONA, for institutional accreditation. This achievement will position EDONA as one of the first doctoral schools in the country to reach this significant milestone.
