Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS)

The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, in addition to classifying universities as a whole (ARWU), has also compiled a league table by academic subject since 2009 called the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS).

When it first started, this ranking analysed five subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Economics / Business Studies) and, in 2017 edition, covers 52, under the broad headings of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.

Data from more than 4,000 universities from all over the world are collected and evaluated. In order to be included in the disciplinary ranking, universities need to have authored a minimum number of research publications in the period 2011-2015. Only publications classified as ‘papers’ are taken into consideration and these are compiled from the InCites data base. The publication threshold is different for each area. The 5 bibliometric indicators used assess the number of papers, their impact factor, international collaboration, their publication in leading journals and the staff belonging to the institution who have won major awards in their fields.

In 2018, the Public University of Navarre appeared in the GRAS TOP 500 in the following positions in the subjects for which it was listed:

Electrical Engineering

Computer Science

Agricultural Engineering
