I am Igor Saenz Abarzuza, a professor, researcher, and cellist. I currently serve as a lecturer at the Public University of Navarre (UPNA). I completed my Bachelor's degrees in Violoncello Performance and Pedagogy at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Navarre (CSMN, 2009), a Master's degree in the Development of Musical Abilities (UPNA, 2013), and a PhD in Music (UPNA, 2017), followed by postgraduate studies in historical cello performance at ESMUC in Barcelona, where I studied under Bruno Cocset and Emmanuel Balssa. I am a founding member of Farout Artistic Research, an institute focused on practice-based research in the arts and innovative artistic practices.
For my research activities, which combine interpretative and creative practice with academic inquiry, I rely on artistic research (practice-based research, research through practice). Additionally, I use performance-oriented musical analysis, with particular emphasis on the figure of Pablo Casals and Bach’s solo cello works. I combine my academic work with an active career as a performing musician.
