Call for abstracts

Contributions by sociologists and by social scientists are welcome, but also papers based on interdisciplinary approaches contributing to the topics under discussion in this conference. Papers with a comparative focus are especially encouraged, together with targeted studies at various spatial levels that explore the impact of economic development on the wellbeing of rural areas.

Some of these topics, but not exclusively, could be the following:

  • Rural poverty and social inequalities
  • Vulnerable populations in rural areas
  • Depopulation
  • Migrations and new residents
  • Population renewal
  • Mobilities and immobilities in rural places

  • Interaction of farming and non-farming sectors
  • New economic activities and livelihoods
  • Local labour markets
  • New socio-spatial relations
  • Employment and housing in rural areas
  • New forms of governance

  • Impact of public policies on rural places
  • Placed-based policies
