María Dolores Ugarte has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Zaragoza (1989) and received her PhD degree in Mathematical Sciences (specialization in Statistics) from the Public University of Navarre (1996). She completed her postdoctoral training in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Simon Fraser University (Canada) (between 1997 and 1998). Since 2009 she is a full professor in the Department of Statistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics at the Public University of Navarre. Her research interest lies in the general field of statistical modeling and spatial and temporal-spatial statistics with applications in many fields. She has taught statistics in several degrees and masters and she is the author of several teaching books. The last one, with Alan T. Arnholt and Ana F. Militino, entitled "Probability and Statistics with R", Second Edition, published in the CRC / Chapman and Hall in 2016.
She has published more than 110 papers in JCR journals and has been involved in many research projects with public administrations, companies, and universities (most of them as PI). She is or has been AE of many journals (like Statistics in Medicine, Statistics and Computing, JRSSA, Statistical Modelling, CSDA, Spatial and Spatio-temporal Epidemiology, TEST, etc) and she was (co)-editor in chief of the journal TEST (2017-2020). She has been chair of the Statistics Department at the Public University of Navarre (2007-2012), vice-president of Statistics in the Spanish Statistical Society (SEIO) (2010-2013) and she has been a member of the Executive Committee of FENStatS (the Federation of European National Statistical Societies) (2018-2023). She has been collaborating with the Spanish Research Agency (2017-2021).
