Jorge Teniente Vallinas, originally from Lodosa, Navarra, was born in Pamplona in December 1973.
He completed his early education at "La Milagrosa" School in Lodosa, followed by high school at the Pablo Sarasate Institute in Lodosa. He later pursued a Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering at the Public University of Navarra in Pamplona, where he earned the title of Telecommunications Engineer in February 1997.
Following his graduation, Jorge embarked on compulsory military service from February 1997 to October 1997. Afterward, starting in September 1997, he began working directly or in roles related to the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering at the Public University of Navarra. During this time, he secured several predoctoral scholarships and contracts associated with research projects.
In December 1998, Jorge was awarded a scholarship dedicated to research personnel training (F.P.I.) by the Ministry of Education and Science. This scholarship allowed him to work as a "Spanish Trainee" at ESA/ESTEC in the Netherlands for a period of two years. Subsequently, in June 2002, he joined the ESA project known as StarTiger 1, a four-month project developed at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in England. In October 2002, he returned as a lecturer at the Public University of Navarra.
In September 2003, he successfully defended his Doctoral Thesis, titled "Modern Corrugated Horn Antennas," achieving the highest qualification, "Apto cum Laude unanimously." His thesis earned him the special mention of European Doctor and the second prize of the V edition of the Rosina Ribalta awards by the Epson Ibérica Foundation for the best Doctoral Thesis Project in the field of Information and Communication Technologies. Furthermore, in June 2004, he received the Telefónica Foundation Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Telecommunications Networks and Services from the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers and the Spanish Association of Telecommunications Engineers.
In the 2004/2005 academic year, Jorge took a voluntary leave from his position at the Public University of Navarra and joined the Department of Electrical, Electronic, Computer, and Systems Engineering at the University of Oviedo, Spain. In October 2005, he returned to the Public University of Navarra, where he was promoted to a permanent position as a senior lecturer in October 2007. Later, in October 2010, he advanced to the position of associate professor, which is his current role.
Throughout his research career, Jorge has been actively involved in 128 research projects, including 52 public projects and 76 contracts with companies, 61 of which he directed. He has authored 33 articles in scientific journals, with nine of them as the first author. Additionally, he contributed to three book chapters and presented 127 papers at various scientific conferences, comprising 52 national and 75 international conferences.
Furthermore, Jorge holds co-inventor credits for three internationally extended patents that are currently being commercially exploited. His research has played a pivotal role in designing horn antennas for more than 12 telecommunication satellites, with several other designs under his supervision for the company ANTERAL S.L., a company he co-founded in November 2010. These horn antenna designs have also found applications in high-performance instruments such as radiometers, radio telescopes, antenna measurement ranges, and related fields.
Currently, Jorge is a member of the Antenna Group at the Public University of Navarra, where he collaborates on various research lines, with a primary focus on the design of horn antennas, Orthomode Transducers (OMTs), septums, polarizers, and the design, fabrication, and measurement of horn antennas in millimeter-wave, sub-millimeter-wave, and terahertz frequencies. Presently, his principal work centers around sub-millimeter-wave microfabrication techniques at a new UPNA facility called the Micro and Nano Fabrication Laboratory (LAMINA), which is a 120 m² ISO5-6-7 clean room facility.
