For more than 20 years, Spanish academics, their Universities, the Centro de Investigación en Contabilidad Social y Medioambiental (CICSMA) and the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR) have promoted the bi-annual Spanish Conference on Social and Environmental Accounting Research. The first conference, which was held at Sevilla University in 1997, focused on the environmental issues and was organized by two of the pioners of the social and environmental accounting discipline in Spain: Professor Carlos Larrinaga González and Professor Francisco Carrasco Fenech.

Two decades later, thanks to the efforts of many national and international academics the conference is now one of the main events in this area of accounting research.

The Conference aims to provide a space for academic discussion of social and environmental accounting issues by giving participants the opportunity to share emerging and advanced research papers and projects. The conference enhances the development of critical and empathic accounting academic work concerned with important social and environmental problems. The conference is multidisciplinary and features a high level of interaction and debate in a supportive environment.

The 12^th Spanish Conference on Social and Environmental Accounting Research (Spanish CSEAR Conference 2019) will take place from 11th to 13th of September 2019 at the Public University of Navarre in Pamplona (Spain).

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Christine Cooper (University of Edinburgh), Co-Editor of the journal Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Associate Prof. Mauricio Gómez Villegas (Universidad Nacional de Colombia),  National Accounting Research Award in Colombia (2003) and Editor of the Journal INNOVAR until January 2018, as our plenary speakers.
