Visit from NHS researcher Richard Guerrero

BIO

Dr. Richard Guerrero-Ludueña is a researcher at the Science Implementation Center of the Health Sciences Academic Network of Wessex, in the south of England, and of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Southampton. Richard is an honorary researcher in 5 hospitals of the National Health System of England (NHS), and his work focuses on the application of Operational Research in health.

Richard joined the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2015, after a year as a visiting scholar at the Business School of the University of Southampton. He previously worked at the Hospital del Mar Institute for Medical Research (IMIM) in Barcelona, at the University of Valladolid, and in the public and private sector in Chile.

Richard holds a PhD from the University of Barcelona, a Master in Process and Systems Engineering from the University of Valladolid, and an Industrial Engineer Degree from the University of Talca - Chile.

Operations Research in healthcare: challenges and opportunities

Abstract

In this presentation we will talk about the British health system and the new NHS strategy in England. We will discuss the potential impact of Operations Research in the evaluation and improvement of health systems, and we will describe the main challenges when developing a research project in this sector. Finally, we will present examples applied to the analysis of activity, capacity and demand of health systems in the south of England.
