Javier Casalí Sarasibar (Pamplona, 1967), is an agricultural engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (School of Agricultural Engineering of Lleida) (1992) and holds a PhD in agricultural engineering from the Public University of Navarra (1997).
He developed his teaching career in the Department of Projects and Rural Engineering and in the Department of Engineering of the UPNA, as Associanted Professor from 1999 to June 2019, and as Full Professor until the present, in the Area of Agroforestry Engineering. He has made stays as a scientific visitor in research centers of the United States Department of Agriculture, leading to active collaborations.
His teaching, always in degrees of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Agrónomos, has been developed around water in the agricultural environment (hydraulics, irrigation, hydrology) and soil erosion. It is worth mentioning the co-direction of ten doctoral theses already read and another two in preparation, and the participation as co-author of two teaching books.
His research activity has focused on studies on soil water erosion and water quality in agricultural areas, being responsible for several research projects. These works have resulted in numerous publications and activities in international journals and conferences. On the other hand, he is a regular reviewer in a dozen of indexed journals in his scientific field.
From June 2007 to May 2011, he served as Vice Rector for Students and International Relations of the Public University of Navarra; and from June 2011 to June 2015, as Vice Rector for International Relations and Cooperation. From the management of the Vice Rector's Office during this period, the following could be highlighted: the creation and strengthening of the Student Council of the University; the implementation of the Tutoring Plan; the increase of student participation in the electoral processes; the consolidation of the UPNA as one of the Spanish universities with greater international mobility of its students; the innovative participation in European programs such as Erasmus-Practicas, Erasmus-Mundus and Alfa; or the creation of new international programs such as the Martín de Rada for Asia.
