I have a degree in chemistry from the University of Granada (1972-77), after that, I joined the research group of Prof. Rodríguez Reinoso (University of Alicante). In 1984, I defended the doctoral thesis. The same year, I joined as an associate professor at Industrial Engineering (San Sebastián) for 5 years. In 1989, I obtained the position of senior lecturer at the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and since 2009 I am a full professor.

The "adsorption" process was the axis on which my research has pivoted, first in my doctoral thesis (Characterization of the porous texture of activated carbons: analysis of several experimental and theoretical methods) and then in the UPNA, with two research lines:

I. Retention of transition metals in soils and in pure phases of them.

II. Synthesis and characterization of xerogels with different porosity by sol-gel process, in order to implement fiber optic sensors.

Most relevant work (with more than 100 citations):

I have also worked in works of synthesis of organometallic compounds and in Food Science and technology.

Since my arrival at the UPNA (1989), I have taught Materials Science courses in Industrial Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering. I have worked in all doctoral programs of the Chemistry Department, always with subjects related to my research. Currently, I coordinate the PhD program in "Science and Industrial Technologies". When I take possession as senior lecturer, the UPNA was in its constituent period. In that period, greater dedication to management tasks was necessary: I was the first director of the Chemistry Department; member of the Management Committee; and, member of the Committee for Research and PhD. From 04/07/2003 to 29/05/2007, I had the opportunity to work in the administrative and curricular student management as Vice-Chancellor of Student and University Extension. From 2004 to 2012, I was President of the Adsorption Group of the Physics and Chemistry Spanish Royal Societies.
