Día: Miércoles 12 de diciembre

Hora: 12:00

Abstract

The seminar provides an overview of the project “Formation and dynamics of international joint ventures in 20th century Italy and Spain” (hosted by INARBE and funded by Fudación Bancaria Cajanavarra and Obra Social “La Caixa”), which aims to understand the reasons behind the establishment and dynamics of international joint ventures. After having introduced the general framework, research questions, methodology, and sources of the project, the presentation will discuss some early outcomes of the analysis, focusing on the Italian experience in four different industries (metals, chemicals, machinery and automobiles), and on the Spanish automobile sector. It will especially show how, coherent with management studies, economic explanations do matter in understanding the behaviour of companies in terms of formation and dissolution of joint ventures. On the other hand, it will claim that these dynamics cannot be understood without considering the role of government intervention and industrial policy within the host country and it will provide some hints for a first generalization.
