Abstract: Methods of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning increasingly influence all parts of our society. Many that use them as tools in industry, administration or academia have a poor understanding of what they are and how they work, implying that they lack ability to see or evaluate possibilities and risks. These methods are traditionally not taught in basic mathematics courses, but in order to improve the fundamental knowledge of AI of future mathematicians, engineers and teachers, we introduce at Linköping University various concepts of AI in basic mathematics courses. In this presentation we focus on how we introduce neural networks, what they are and how they are trained, in courses of calculus of several variables
