Alfonso Carlosena Zaragozako Unibertsitatean hasi zen ikertzaile-lanetan, tresnerian aplikatu ohi diren sistema elektroniko batzuen (osziladore sinusoidal kanonikoak, hots, osagai pasiboen kopuru txikiena dutenak) azterketan oinarritutako doktoretza tesi batekin. Lanak zenbait esparrutan egindako ekarpenak utzi zituen emaitza gisa, aipagarriena berrelikatutako sistemei buruzkoa. Tesia amaitu ondoren, egonaldi bat egin zuen ETHko Institute for Signal and Information Processing-en (Zürich), sareen teoriako pertsona historikoetako batekin: G.S. Moschytz. Espainiara itzuli zenean, eta ildo horri jarraitzen dion bitartean, korronte moduko diseinua izenaz ezagutzen den horretan hasi zen lanean, hots, irudikatutako seinaleak tentsio gisa prozesatu ordez korronte gisa prozesatzen dituzten sistema analogikoak.
