Dr. Fermín Alcasena, a Senior Wildfire Scientist at the Public University of Navarre, works on understanding and managing wildfire risks, particularly through extreme fire modeling and optimizing fuel management in forests and wildland-urban interface areas. After earning a degree in Forest Engineering, he began his research journey in 2013 at the CMCC Foundation in Italy. He later pursued an MSc in Wildland Fire Science and Integrative Management, followed by a Ph.D. in Forest and Environmental Management. From 2019 to 2022, he spent three years at Oregon State University as a postdoctoral researcher through the USDA Forest Service's J-1 International Visitor Program. He has published 37 SCI peer-reviewed papers, reviewed over 29 manuscripts for 15 SCI journals, and presented his work at international conferences in the USA, Portugal, Italy, and Spain. Prior to his academic endeavors, he gained practical experience as a Harvesting Manager for a logging company and played a part in managing public forests in northern Spain's rural communities.
