EXPERTISE
Dr. García Lorente has a long experience in Material Science, especially in Metallurgy, and Surface treatment like PVD, Ion Implantation and Plasma immersion, and characterisation techniques like XPS, AUGER, GDOES, SEM, TEM, XRD...
PUBLICATIONS
He has published more than 50 scientific papers in international journals of the JRC system, and more than 100 contributions in industrial magazines. In addition, he has been granted with 2 EU patents and 2 national ones.
PROJECTS
He participates in 2 EU projects of the 7th framework program and various ERA-NET projects. In FP6 and FP5 he participated in 4 projects in total. Dr. Garcia Lorente is developing since more than a decade, innovation projects (more than a 100 contracts with European companies) devoted to develop solutions to different industrial sectors:
• The metal-tooling sector for a variety of cases and applications: high temperature forming, machining, stamping, and rolling. Some of those developments are under patent filing processes. Further expertise has been developed in the field of thermal barrier coatings based on PVD technologies.
• Surface treatments on biomaterials, in particular, biocompatible metals and alloys used on joints (hip, knee, etc), and cardiovascular devices (stents).
• Polymer Nanocomposite: Combination of polymer and nano-particles for better functionality and performance. Combination of Mechanics, strength and conductivity functionalities, Electromagnetic shielding (EMI).
TEACHING, DIFFUSION
Dr. Garcia has coordinate PhD thesis and MSc works in the materials science field. He is member of steering committee of ASEVA (Spanish vacuum society), SVC (Society of Vacuum coaters), and participate in the scientific committees of several surface treatments conferences, and platforms. He usually participates in Surface treatments courses organized by Spanish Universities and research centers.
