When the student finishes the lectures he or she should be able to:
¿ R1. Understand and use the fundamental principles of Mechanics and Thermodynamics in the analysis and solution of problems related with subjects of upcoming courses.
¿ R2. Identify and evaluate those physical aspects related with Mechanics and Thermodynamics in problems and activities in the engineering context.
¿ R3. Use and relate the different measurement units of the main physical magnitudes of Mechanics and Thermodynamics.
¿ R4. Use the appropriate instruments for the determination of relevant physical parameters in Mechanics and Thermodynamics.
¿ R5. Acquire the experimental skills to test physical laws and to determine physical parameters.
¿ R6. Conveniently document the measuring process regarding its basic principles, instrumentation and limits of applicability. .

Ordinary evaluation.
For the ordinary evaluation of this matter, two different facets will be considered: (i) written exams and (ii) work done in the Laboratory Sessions . The marks of these two tasks will be weighted according to the table below.
The attendance to the Laboratory Sessions and lab report are mandatory and the mark cannot be compensated in the Resit exam.
Learning outcomes | Evaluation | Weight (%) | Resit exam |
R1, R2, R3 | Written exams. | 85 | Yes |
R4, R5, R6 | Laboratory Sessions | 15 | No |
Resit Exam.
The resit exam will consist of a single written exam of all the contents of this matter.
The mark from this resit exam will be 85% of the final mark of this matter.
The remaining 15% will correspond to the marks obtained in the work previously done in the Laboratory Sessions.
Laboratory practices
Calorimetry. Dulong-Petit Law.
Second Newton Law.
Rotation Dynamics.
These three practices are considered to be essential in order to achieve the learning outcomes. Consequently, the assistance to these three practices is mandatory.
It will be necessary to submit a practice report after the laboratory sessions for its qualification.
