Seminario de investigación: Intra and Inter-particle interactions in magnetic nanoparticle systems

ABSTRACT:

I will present a selection of studies coordinated by the ApNano group (UCLM) exploring both intraparticle (mainly exchange bias) and dipolar- driven collective magnetism in systems prepared by either gas-phase or chemical methods. However, we have very recently contributed to complete the “nanomagnetism chart” by showing non-exchange bias as well as non-dipolar collective behaviour in conventional and binary particle systems of Fe oxide. I will show present and projected capabilities of the gas-phase synthesis equipment available in our lab at Ciudad Real, with assorted results on the application of magnetic (as well as non-magnetic) nanoparticles in fields ranging from biology (antiviral properties of silver nanoparticles) to hydrogen sensing (nanoribbons of palladium particles), as well as fundamental insights in magnetism. The advantages of gas-phase synthesis for the nanoparticle community will be underlined.
