Breve CV

English:

María Dolores Ugarte has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Zaragoza (1989) and received her PhD degree in Mathematical Sciences (specialization in Statistics) from the Public University of Navarre (1996). She completed her postdoctoral training in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Simon Fraser University (Canada) (between 1997 and 1998). Since 2009 she is a full professor in the Department of Statistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics at the Public University of Navarre. Her research interest lies in the general field of statistical modeling and spatial and temporal-spatial statistics with applications in many fields.  She has taught statistics in several degrees and masters and she is the author of several teaching books. The last one, with Alan T. Arnholt and Ana F. Militino, entitled "Probability and Statistics with R", Second Edition, published in the CRC / Chapman and Hall in 2016.

She has published more than 110 papers in JCR journals and has been involved in many research projects with public administrations, companies, and universities (most  of them as PI). She is or has been AE of many journals (like Statistics in Medicine, Statistics and Computing, JRSSA, Statistical Modelling, CSDA, Spatial and Spatio-temporal Epidemiology, TEST, etc) and she was  (co)-editor in chief of the journal TEST (2017-2020). She has been chair of the Statistics Department at the Public University of Navarre (2007-2012), vice-president of Statistics in the Spanish Statistical Society (SEIO)  (2010-2013) and she has been  a member of the Executive Committee of FENStatS (the Federation of European National Statistical Societies) (2018-2023). She has been collaborating with the Spanish Research Agency  (2017-2021). In 2021 she delivered the prestigious Santaló Conference (2020-Santaló Conference) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_3gA_U-G2A]  and received the Prize BBVA Foundation-SEIO to the best contribution in Applied Statistics given by an international committee.

She has been the President of the Mathematics and Physics Committee of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI) [2021-2022]. She is a member of the Mathematics Advisory Board of the Gadea Science Foundation. In January 2023 she was appointed director of INAMAT2 (Institute for Advanced Materials and Mathematics) at  UPNA and in September 2023, President of FENStatS.

María Dolores Ugarte es licenciada en Matemáticas por la Universidad de Zaragoza (1989) y Doctora en Ciencias Matemáticas (especialidad Estadística) por la Universidad Pública de Navarra (1996). Realizó su formación posdoctoral en el Departamento de Matemáticas y Estadística de la Universidad Simon Fraser (Canadá)  (entre los años 1997 y 1998). Desde el año 2009 es catedrática de universidad adscrita al Departamento de Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas de la Universidad Pública de Navarra. Sus líneas principales de investigación se centran en el ámbito general de la modelización estadística y de la estadística espacial y espacio-temporal con aplicaciones en numerosos campos. En el ámbito docente ha impartido  asignaturas de estadística en varias titulaciones de grado,  máster y doctorado. Es autora de varios libros docentes. El último, junto con Alan T. Arnholt y Ana F. Militino,  titulado "Probability and Statistics with R", Second Edition,  publicado en la editorial CRC/Chapman and Hall en 2016 y del texto "Solutions Manual for Probability and Statistics with R", Second Edition, publicado en la misma editorial y con los mismos autores también en 2016. En el año 2007 recibió el premio INNOLEC Lectureship Award concedido por la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de Masaryk (República Checa)  y en el año 2021 recibió el Premio BBVA-SEIO a la mejor contribución en Estadística Aplicada (en coautoría) concedido por un jurado internacional. Ha publicado más de un centenar de artículos en revistas JCR,  ha participado en más de veinte proyectos financiados por convocatorias públicas (la mayoría de ellos como IP)  y en más de cuarenta contratos firmados con administraciones públicas, empresas y universidades (todos como IP o Co-IP). Ha impartido además numerosas conferencias tanto nacionales como internacionales, entre ellas la prestigiosa conferencia Santaló en 2021.Su labor editorial como editora asociada o miembro del panel editorial en revistas internacionales de estadística es también destacada (Statistics in Medicine, Statistics and Computing,  Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A, Statistical Modelling, Test, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, Spatial and Spatio-temporal Epidemiology, Colombian Journal of Statistics, Investigación Operacional). Ha sido además (co)-editora en jefe de la revista TEST (2017-2020), vicepresidenta de la Sociedad de Estadística e Investigación Operativa (SEIO)  (entre 2010 y 2013) y directora del Dpto de Estadística e Investigación Operativa de la UPNA (entre 2007 y 2012).  En la actualidad es miembro del Consejo de Estadística de Navarra como representante de la UPNA.  De enero de 2017 a junio de 2018 fue adjunta al gestor de Matemáticas en la División de Coordinación, Evaluación y Seguimiento Científico técnico de la Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI). En julio de 2018 fue nombrada Coordinadora del área MTM (Matemáticas) de la AEI (2018-2021). Durante las convocatorias de 2021 y 2022 ha sido Presidenta de la Comisión de Matemáticas y Física de la Comisión Nacional de Evaluación de la Actividad Investigadora (CNEAI). Forma parte del Consejo Asesor en Matemáticas de la Fundación Gadea Ciencia. En enero de 2023 fue nombrada directora del instituto de investigación INAMAT2 de la UPNA. El pasado 12 septiembre de 2023 fue elegida Presidenta de FENStatS.
