These videos describe some of the fundamentals of our research activities:

• Generation of LMRs by means of polymeric coatings

  Generation of lossy mode resonances (LMRs) by means of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) coatings fabricated onto the 200mm core of optical fibers. Transmittance spectra is obtained between 400-1700nm as a function of the number of PAH/PAA from bilayer 1 to 100.

• Generation of LMRs by means of titanium dioxide nanoparticle-based coatings

  Generation of lossy mode resonances (LMRs) by means of titanium dioxide (TiO2), Poly Styrene Sulfonate (PSS) coatings fabricated onto the 200mm core of optical fibers. Transmittance spectra is obtained between 400-1700nm as a function of the TiO2/PSS coating thickness up to 1164nm.

• Refractive index measurements by means of LMRs generated by means of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coatings fabricated by sputtering.

  The variation of the refractive index (RI) of the medium in contact with the ITO LMR supporting coatings produces a change in the light at the output of the fiber. When the sensitive region is surrounded by different media, such as air (n=1), water (n=1.33) and glycerin/water 80% (n=1.45) the light at the output of the fiber is yellow, orange and purple respectively.

• Fiber optic sensors for monitoring a concrete beam high strain bending test.

  A concrete beam bending test performed to compare a FBG sensors with our low-cost intensity bending sensor when used for high strain monitoring.

• Fiber Bragg gratings fundamentals

  This video describes the fundamentals of Fiber Bragg gratings and their applications as fiber optic sensors and in fiber lasers (in spanish)
