Module/Subject matter

Didactic and disciplinary / Mathematics and its didactics

Up

Contents

The didactic contents are introduced for the description of teaching and learning situations specific to mathematics. The didactic contents of the 5th semester are based on the theoretical developments of the area and are validated experimentally. In particular, we emphasize the introduction and analysis of the practical contributions of the Didactics of Mathematics, and its application as an instrument of design and analysis of situations.

The didactic contents are concretized in the mathematical contents of the curriculum, with particular emphasis on geometry and statistics. These mathematical contents are worked out in four blocks.

General proficiencies

Core competences

CB1 Students have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in an area of study that starts at the base of general secondary education, and is usually found at a level that, while supported by advanced textbooks, also includes some aspects that involve knowledge from the forefront of their field of study.

CB2 Students know how to apply their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and possess the skills that are usually demonstrated through the elaboration and defense of arguments and problem solving within their area of study.

CB5 Students have developed the learning skills needed to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy.

General competences

CG1 Know the curriculum areas of Primary Education, the interdisciplinary relationship between them, the assessment criteria, and the body of didactic knowledge related to the respective teaching and learning procedures.

CG2 Design, plan and evaluate teaching and learning processes, both individually and in collaboration with other teachers and professionals at the centre.

CG8 Maintain a critical and autonomous relationship with knowledge, values and public and private social institutions.

GC9 Valuing individual and collective responsibility for achieving a sustainable future.

CG10 Reflect on classroom practices to innovate and improve teaching. Acquire habits and skills for autonomous and cooperative learning and promote it among students.

CG11 Know and apply information and communication technologies in classrooms. Selectively distinguish audiovisual information that contributes to learning, civic education and cultural richness.

Transversal competences

CT2 Demonstrate linguistic competence in Spanish and, where appropriate, Basque equivalent to a level C1 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment" of the Council of Europe.

CE7 Encourage co-operation, motivation and desire to learn, and actively participate in centre projects.

CE8 Maintain a critical and autonomous relationship with respect to the knowledge, values and institutions involved in education.

CE10 Reflect on classroom practices to innovate and improve teaching work, and refer them to the functioning of basic psychological processes, pedagogical models and disciplinary criteria of the stage.

CE11 Know the educational implications of information and communication technologies.

CE12 Actively organise the teaching and learning processes of the contents of primary education from a competence development perspective. Knowing quality improvement models.

CE14 Contextualize teaching action in the face of political, social and pedagogical changes, promote democratic education and the development of active citizenship for the achievement of a sustainable future.

Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes are the concretization of the competencies that the student will acquire in the subject. There are three levels:

That's great. Acquisition of 100 per cent of competencies and mastery of at least 75 per cent of them.
Half. Acquisition of most of the required competencies in the subject and master's degree in those aspects that contribute to the specific competencies of the degree.
Deficient. Insufficient acquisition of the aspects that contribute to the specific competences of the degree.
A student earns an APTO grade if the learning level is optimal or medium.

These learning outcomes are embodied in this subject as follows:

A1: Know the teaching and learning processes of the following subjects in primary education, using adequately the language and the basic results corresponding to each specific discipline: geometry of the plane, geometry of space and descriptive statistics.

R2: Construct geometric shapes on the plane with the Geogebra program.

A3: Use a spreadsheet to collect and analyze data from a statistical experiment.

A4: Analyze didactic materials for the teaching of geometry and statistics in Primary Education.

Evaluation

Learning outcome   Evaluation system   Weight (%) Retakable (%)* Minimum mark required
 RA4 SE2: Theoretical-practical works of review and synthesis 15 15
RA2, RA3 SE3: Practical work: observation, proposal and, where appropriate, evaluation 15 15
RA1 SE4: Oral or written tests, in part or in combination 70 70 SUITABLE (5)
   TOTAL 100 100

SE2: Design of activities for the teaching of statistics and geometry in PE.
SE3: Classroom or computer lab practices for teaching statistics and geometry in PE.
SE4: Two tests will be performed: partial (30%) and final (40%). In both, you will need to have an APTO rating. If the partial test has a grade of 5 or higher, the corresponding part need not be taken in the final test. If the grade on the partial test is less than 5, the complete final test will be taken.

If you do NOT get an APTO grade on the "SE4", the maximum final grade you will be able to get is 4. 5. Thus, the lowest score between 4. 5 and the average for all assessment instruments will be recorded in the minutes.

Tools used for the retake:

(a) SE2 (practical work). If an "APTO" rating has not been achieved in the overall work, an individual practical question included in the SE4 test will be performed as a recovery of the SE2.
(b) SE3 (classroom or laboratory practices). If a qualification of "APTO" has not been achieved in the overall practice, others equivalent to those suspended may be performed individually, which will be delivered on the same day of the recovery test.
(c) SE4 (oral or written tests). A standard test will be conducted in a format similar to that carried out in the regular period.
