Transportation and logistics (T&L) activities represent a key sector in worldwide economies, and are a significant contributor to social and economic progress in modern societies. Hereby, T&L activities have a major impact in the development of so-called smart cities, where large quantities of data are gathered in real-time via electronic devices transmitted over the Internet. Due to its potential applications to real-life operations, one of the most recurrent topics in the T&L literature is that of modeling and optimizing tour assignments of vehicles. Moreover, modern T&L systems include heterogeneous fleets consisting of common internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEs) as well as other types of vehicles using green technologies, e.g., plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs), bicycles and tricycles (BT), and even unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones. The incorporation of EVs, BTs, and UAVs in T&L activities also raise some additional challenges from the strategic, planning, and operational perspectives. We are going to study the impact of the use of the aforementioned devices in the general delivery actions of goods and merchandises in a smart city.

English. A C1 level of English is recommended to follow this subject.
The subject evaluation will be made taking into account the following criteria:
1.-Participation (15%): The active participation of the students in the subject will be highly considered. The students¿ interventions will be counted in the forums / blogs of the subject.
2.- Development of objective tests (20%): This type of tasks seeks to measure the process of knowledge acquisition in the subject, taking into account the point of departure of each student, and their progress.
3.- Case study developments (65%): The application of quantitative techniques to cases of real companies allows to show the real knowledge of the subject by the student. Each student will be asked to solve at least one practical case and will count for their realization of the teaching assistant's help. The resolution of these practical cases are mandatory for passing of the subject.
