The Public University of Navarre was established to cover the region's
higher education requirements. The Navarre Parliament wished to provide
local society with such a teaching and research centre.

The University will continue to provide this service in the future, adapting
to new emerging needs. The University therefore plans to include degrees
which may be particularly useful for or demanded by the social and economic
situation in Navarre.
Continuing the creation and development process that began in 1987, the
campus will be completed with the buildings and facilities required. This
is all contemplated in the University's second strategic plan, edited
in collaboration with the Social Board.
The mission of the Public University of Navarre is to prepare the new
generations to face the challenges of the 21st century. In this respect,
it makes every effort to obtain the best possible results in its teaching
and research. Its international calling means that it makes special efforts
to become integrated into the context of the European Union.
Globalisation of the economy has reactivated competition in value added
products and all developed countries are aware of the need to promote
innovation to maintain a high level of qualified employment.
The Public University of Navarre is therefore a fundamental factor in
the future of Navarre society, in order to maintain such a level. Research
in key technological sectors - such as telecommunications, biotechnology
and the food industry -
also requires an analysis of current social processes
because, in this context of globalisation, there will be more demands
than every before for the search for the identity of individuals, social
groups and nations.
