Carmen Jarén Ceballos (Montellano, Seville) is an Agricultural engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, center to which she was assigned from 1989 to 1992 as a predoctoral fellow (FPI) and in which she got her Ph.D. in 1994. In 1992, she joined the Department of Agroforestry Engineering of the Public University of Navarre (UPNA) as professor of University School of Agricultural Machinery and Engines and, since 1995, as a professor in the Department of Projects and Rural Engineering.
Her research activity has focused on the field of agricultural mechanization, from job security in tractors and agricultural machines to the physical properties of agricultural products (mechanical properties, optical properties, image analysis, near-infrared spectroscopy, etc.. ) and, especially, in its applications to the determination of damage to fruit during harvesting and handling, the evolution of texture and quality determination.
Jarén co-authored over 80 scientific publications in international journals (JCR) and science magazines. She has completed research stages in centers and universities such as the Scottish Centre of Agricultural Engineering of Edinburgh (Scotland), University of Evora (Portugal) and the Federal University of Viçosa (Brazil). As a result of this work, she has received the First Prize of Project Job Safety, Ideactiva Award and 3M Prize.
Since joining the Public University of Navarre, she has participated in eight research projects with public funds and, in five of them, as principal researcher and has signed more than 20 agreements with companies and public agencies. She has also participated in recent years as a guest lecturer, as well as a member of the organising and advisory committees in different international congresses. She has also given over a hundred papers in congresses. She is a member of the Spanish Society for Horticultural Science, the Spanish Society of Agricultural Engineering and European Society of Agricultural Engineering, and a member of the Jury of Technical Innovations International Fair of Agricultural Machinery (FIMA).
Focusing on her academic experience in management, Carmen Jarén Ceballos has been secretary and deputy director of the Department of Projects and Rural Engineering, secretary of the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineers (ETSIA), area director of Postgraduate Studies, member of the Board of the Agricultural Research Farm of ETSIA and member of the Board of the ETSIA, the Research Committee and the University Senate in UPNA.
